Race Reports by Vaughn Marshall

This is a race report of a 48 Km Time Trial, Simon and I did on the 26th of August as a 2-up team in the BcMasters yesterday.

The race was on a very tough race course, with LOTS of undualating hills! Those hills soon sap your strength, because, they are never steep enough on the downhill to carry you up the next one. So, it was hard to get into a proper rythmn. Plus, it was very windy. We had a headwind both ways. It took both of us awhile to get warmed up, because we started off without getting a warm up. After we finished, Simon said, we should have just rode from Duncan, to the starting line on Lake Cowichian Rd.

On top of the headwind, we ended up getting caught in a torrential downpour for the last 6 Kms! It was raining so hard, it was bouncing off the road, and I could hear it bouncing off my aero helmet! So, when it started raining, we had to ride on our own, because of the spray coming off the rear wheel. I like washing my face with Hot Water, thank you very much!! haahaa

Since this race was with the Bc Masters, they use an AGE STANDARD TIME. We are in the 40-44 age group. Our ACTUAL TIME was 1:26:01. The AGE STANDARD TIME was 1:20:24. DIFFERANCE FROM A.S.T: 05:37 We got a Gold Medal! This is the first time both of us has done a 2-up time trial, but, we worked pretty good together. It helps when you train with someone for a long time.

Thanks again, to the sponsors for providing funds to our club, to allow me to do what I love doing-Racing!
